The kit works very well. It helps you enjoy your ride, and “enters” softly, you don’t even notice the electric help. It’s not a 5 star rating ( for me a 4.5) for 2 reasons: the autonomy is not as much as stated, and the waiting times have to be really improved. I have been trying to contact the web to get either another kit or an extra battery, but has been imposible. Just getting into a never-ending waiting list. To sum up: it really gets its work done, really worth its price, converting your bike into an E-bike; but if you want to buy, you should take advantage of the season offers they release, when they have stock…
Hi from Ontario, Canada! I am leaving this review hoping it may help any trikers. I bought Schwinn Meridian Adult Tricycle Bike and Swytch for my son but he did not like it. So, it ended up to be my commuter trike. Installation was easy and straight forward. My commute is around 5km one way. Since my trike is much heavier than a normal bike the battery needs charging in my office for return trip. Other than that I do not see any issue. You may go with a bigger battery if you are planning longer ride. I am uploading some of closeups to show you the installation. I hope it helps.
Swytch bike has eliminated the hills and wind of New Zealand that makes biking a challenge. We are motivated to go out riding heaps more now knowing we can enjoy the thrill of riding without the pain of going up that one hill against the wind. We get to keep using our nice bikes that we love and are accustomed to but with the benefit of a little extra power when we need it. Also, we love having an extra battery when we want to go a little further. Only wished I had bought the bigger battery as my extra versus the smaller on.
The swytch kit has worked well on my Brompton, though I did have some teething issues at the beginning, but they appear to be all resolved. However trying to get my kit registered for warranty has been less then straight forward and I have made two attempts on line to get this done, have followed all instructions and uploaded images of fitting kit to bike and complete all tasks requested and sent, but I have had no response to date, that my registration has been successful? Hopefully you will respond to this survey and get this sorted! I will then be happy to give you a much higher star score.
very good battery. small and easy to install, recharge and carry around. had some little issues installing it (my fault) and the support team helped me out in no second.
good job guys.
Bought the Swytch kit for my wife so she could keep up with me. She loves it for the exercise, especially because you must be peddling for e-assist to function. Operation is very smooth and seamless when you begin to peddle. Now I can't keep up to her on inclines and into the wind.
This was a great way to convert your bike to an e-bike. When the order arrived it was very simple to install on my existing bike and was using it very quickly. It's fun to ride and the product delvers in almost every way. There are only a few things I can point out that would make this a better product and the first one is battery capacity. I ordered the largest battery and it doesn't last as long as it was advertised. On a full charge I can probably get 10 miles at the very most and I wish that it would allow for more. That brings me to the only other thing I would like to see improved and that is the ability to order replacement parts or even extra batteries after purchasing the kit. I broke the speedometer while upgrading some of the parts on the bike and in order to get a replacement for this I had to email customer service and ask them to order it for me and because of miscommunication the part they sent me was the standard speedometer and not the OLED that I wanted so it would be much easier if there was a store you could visit and pick the part you want. I would also love to get an extra battery but don't really want to go through emailing customer service and maybe getting the wrong part. Those are two small things that kept me from giving it 5 stars but if you are looking for an ebike this wont let you down.
Difficult to fit to make work on a BB30 bottom bracket bike ( need an FSA insert shell and a cartridge bottom bracket) but can work no problem once thought about Brilliant once done but not a quick solution but can make it work.
Six months in and still working like a dream.
The customer care was amazing. The team were super helpful to answer all my questions without delay. An amazing product and amazing customer/aftercare.
I love it- like cycling but without all the boring bits! Super-easy to set up too. The only issue is the battery - I have a 15 mile ride to do, so bought the larger battery, but after a few goes it only just lasts for this distance. Wish I’d opted for the integrated lights too as that would be so convenient.
Love what it did to my bike makes all journeys pleasurable and so much more efficient - rarely use my car in the city any more
I do wish the charger unit was more robust. After only a few months wires are really lose and anxious it’s going to be out of use soon. Also the battery lights and the on bike battery gauge are in no way aligned so it’s easy to suddenly find yourself out of power when you think you have more. That aside it’s a firm hit with me.
I really like how compact the battery system it, how easy it is to charge up and how the Swytch bike really helps assist my ride, especially on the hills where I live. It makes bike riding more manageable on my aging joints and makes me want to keep riding my bike consistently. I'm very please I was able to convert my favorite bike into an eBike.
My one regret is not having ordered the larger battery. Depending on my route, the hills can really use up charge in a hurry, so in hindsight, I should have chosen having more capacity.
E-Brompton with Swytch kit: commuting is no longer the same
First of all, I was surprised (Note: it's my first experience with an e-bike) by the acceleration power of the engine... a bomb! Climbs no longer exist, with my 3 gear when you exceeded a 4% gradient the pedaling was quite hard without the engine.
The installation was simple and I had fun understanding how to manage the passage of the cables also to allow it to be folded without problems.
With the engine off, you can feel the resistance of the engine when starting to pedal, less during the bike ride on a flat ground. I appreciated the rather smooth power transmission mode and the relative silence of the engine.
The lightness and compactness of the kit - I took the Swytch max kit with an overall weight of the bike increased by only 3.5kg - comes at the expense of a not exceptional declared autonomy of 30km: after four months of use I travel about 45km and 400m D+ elevation a week with 2 full battery charges.
I quote from another review the ONLY NEGATIVE NOTE regarding the Swytch kit I found: "...the computer part and the battery both have power indicators and yet they almost never agree with each other. The computer power level indicator shrinks very quickly and will cut out and stop sending power to the motor even though the battery indicator is still showing three of five lights meaning there should be at least 50% of battery left. What makes this even worse is that when power is not actively being sent to the motor there is considerable drag against your self-powered pedaling. Then if I stop at a stop sign or for a minute or two on the side of the road the power indicator on the computer goes back up and now I have power again. So there's something wrong in the programming that hopefully could be fixed for future models. It's really frustrating to see that your battery has more than 50% power and the brain of the whole thing decide that you have zero."
Ultimately, I really appreciate the electric assistance of Swytch kit but I strongly recommend to buy the MAX battery pack in order to have a reasonable riding distance between recharges.
Kit has exceeded my expectations. Installation experience was acceptable, and the power and assist has been amazing. Completely changed my biking experience. We were missing one part (battery dongle) upon delivery. Support promptly sent us the missing part.
I wanted to keep my old Norco Monterey, the first bike I bought in Canada. Installing the kit on it was fairly easy. The key was making sure that the pedal sensor is within 3mm of the pedal magnetic disc. I can now ride to work without breaking out in sweat.
Although I did not get my kit at the promised delivery date, I can understand the supply chain factors that had disrupted economic activities around the world. Once I got my kit, customer service was great.
I was delighted with my Swytch kit which I received in Jan 2023. Packing and fitting instructions were excellent and I found it relatively easy to install having been used to bike maintenance for many years.
The immediate impact was amazing and makes all my local commuting so easy.
I use the bike for lots of short journeys, up to 15 kilometre round trip, where it’s not necessary to use my car.
The benefits from a health perspective are brilliant not to mention saving on motoring costs and helping to combat climate change!
I’ve been so pleased with my Swytch kit that I’ve now ordered one for my wife.
When you already have a good bicycle, Swytch provides a new lease of life for both rider and bike.
Hills are no longer daunting and you arrive at your destination unflustered and ready for your next adventure!
The max battery kit works well with my full suspension MTB , off road or a more leisurely on road ride. Nice and lightweight and doesn’t get disturbed or rattled by heavy landings (“casing” dislodged the peddle sensor a couple of times but nothing major that couldn’t be adjusted). Have to use the cable ties on the crank as not enough room due to the rear suspension link. The articulation of the joint for the crank fixing needs to be a bit more flexible as that took me the longest thing to set up to maintain a perfect 3mm gap all the way round. I did mange it and used that metal weld paste to hold it securely in place.
It works very well, especially now that I have the superior 'Mode' unit, which allows me to power down as well as up, and thus extends the range of the battery, as I pedal the flat on zero power. At age 75, I no longer feel exhausted by a typical 24 mile local ride, including a few uphill sections, which is brilliant.
