Bicycles come in all shapes and sizes and the Swytch Kit can convert 99% of the (roughly) 1 billion bicycles in the world. So, we've got a wide range of kit types for you to choose from.
The Swytch Kit comes in all industry-standard wheel sizes, from 16" all the way up to 28"/700C/29er. All you need to do is order your kit and then confirm the exact wheel size afterwards in our Order Portal.
The kit is simple to fit and easy to use, however, there are a few things worth checking to ensure you order the right one for your bike. If you need any technical assistance, please get in touch and our UK-based technical support team will be on hand to assist![qbutton icon_pack="" target="_blank" font_weight="" text="Check my Bicycle" link="https://swytchbike.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000145338&tf_360006614077=wifmb&tf_subject=Will+it+fit+my+bike%3F&tf_description=Hi%2C%0D%0A%0AMy+bike+model+is%3A"]
The Universal Kit or the Kit for Bromptons?
This will depend on the width of your front forks. Most bikes have a 100mm (10cm) distance between the front forks, which means you’ll need the Universal kit.
If your forks are outside this measurement by less than 5mm then don't worry, the motor wheel can still be fitted with the help of spacers provided with the kit.
If your bike has narrower forks, 74mm-80mm, then you will need our kit for Bromptons. This specialised motor is designed specifically for the narrow Brompton forks, which are 74mm wide, but it is also fully compatible with other narrow-fork bikes such as a Dahon (80mm).
The eBike Kit for Bromptons works on any Brompton and is the only ebike conversion kit in the world to do so without any irreversible modifications.
Which wheel sizes can I get?
We can build a kit to fit all standard wheel sizes. Common wheel sizes that our customers request include: 29er, 28″, 700C, 27.5″ 650B, 26″, 24″, 20″, 18″ and 16″. If you get stuck identifying your wheel size, you can use our helpful wheel size guide.
If you have a Brompton, you will need a 16″ (ETRTO 349) wheel that comes as standard with our kit for Bromptons.
What width tyres can the motor wheel support?
Our wheels have a standard internal width of 20mm and an external width of 24mm. Swytch wheels can take any width of tyres from 1.1-2.5 inches (28-64mm). This means it won't fit with Fat Tyres or very narrow road tyres.
Can I keep my bespoke front wheel?
Absolutely! We offer a hub-only option, where you receive a kit with just the hub and without the rim and spokes. You can then thread it to a rim of your choice yourself or at your local bike shop.
This option is available in the Order Portal that you will be invited to after you place your order.
I have a very wide/narrow crank setup
No problem at all! We have recently launched a new and improved Universal pedal sensor (Universal PAS), which was designed in-house by our engineers to fit every bike pedal and bottom bracket type. It’s very flexible and can be configured in a number of ways to suit all situations. A Universal PAS will be included with every order.
Which brakes does the kit work with?
The Universal Swytch Kit is compatible with cable, hydraulic, and disc brakes. If you have hub, roller or coaster brakes, you will need to change to disc brakes or rim brakes to use the Swytch kit. Also, the Kit for Bromptons does not support disc brakes.
Order our Swytch Kit with the "custom wheel build option", and we'll be able to supply you with a bespoke 20" motor wheel to go on your bike.
Is the wheel quick-release (QR)?
Unfortunately, the Swytch wheel needs to be bolted on so you would lose the quick-release function but it would still fit fine. The other exception is if you have Thru-Axle forks. If you need any extra assistance with this please contact our support team.
Will my bike still fold with the Swytch Kit?
Yes, it absolutely will. If you’re mounting the Power Pack on your handlebars, you will need to first remove the Power Pack from the handlebar bracket, but as long as you secure the wires, your bike will fold with ease.
If you have a Brompton bike, you can opt for the additional Swytch Brompton Block adaptor. This lets you attach your Power Pack in the Brompton Bag position, so the Power Pack can remain connected when folding.
How much room do I need on the handlebars?
The handlebar mount is designed to fit almost any handlebar setup. The mount takes up 90mm on the centre of your handlebars, sticks out 50mm forward, and is 60mm in height (20mm above handlebars).
If you aren’t sure if it will fit, contact our support team who will be able to provide some alternative solutions.
Specialist bikes
Our kit fits Trikes, Recumbents, Cargo Bikes, Tandems and a whole range of other bikes, as long as there is one front wheel and somewhere to mount the Power Pack.
